American Armed Forces Conducts Lethal Strike in Pacific, Leading to Four Deaths

As stated by a high-ranking defense official, the US military executed a fatal strike on a boat in the eastern Pacific, killing four individuals.

“Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a craft operated by a terrorist group in international waters. Surveillance verified the vessel was transiting along a established drug smuggling route and was involved in illicit drug transport. A total of four male drug traffickers were eliminated, and no American forces were harmed.”

Background and Prior Actions

The statement comes a day after an announcement regarding a blockade of all targeted oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. In that announcement on online platforms, the US president alleged Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, pledging to escalate the military buildup.

Just on Tuesday, the Pentagon stated it had carried out strikes on three boats it accused of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, killing eight people. Since 2 September, more than 20 strikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 people, most off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Justifies Tactics Amid Pressure

The administration has faced growing demands to make public video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, officials have refused to do so. The administration has defended its campaign as a success, saying it has prevented drugs from reaching US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is stretching the bounds of legal military action.

While the administration has said the operation is about halting drugs headed to the US, remarks from a senior aide appeared to confirm a wider geopolitical objective. In a recent interview, the chief of staff said the president “aims to keep on destroying vessels until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”

This suggests the series of strikes may be part of a push to remove Venezuela's current government.
