Bolsonaro taken into custody after being deemed a flight risk

The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a definite escape threat while under house arrest.

The ex-president was found guilty of plotting a military coup in last fall and sentenced more than a 27-year term in jail, but he was staying under confinement pending appeals.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the decision to arrest the elderly politician was a preventative measure after "new facts" emerged.
