Cameron Norrie Hails 'Most Significant Win' After Fighting Back to Beat Alcaraz in the Paris Masters

Cameron Norrie achieved the most important success of his career by rebounding from a set down to overcome top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz with a stunning comeback in the second round of the prestigious indoor tournament.

While he had before defeated Alcaraz on two occasions, this triumph represents Norrie's maiden victory over a sitting world top-ranked player.

"Enormous. So big for me," said Norrie, who becomes the fifth British man in history to beat a global number one. "Returning from health issues last year, I lost in the initial match of qualies here. I just sought to embrace my performance in the latter part of the year. To achieve a victory like this, it's the most significant win of my career, my initial victory over the world No 1 and likely the most confident player in the tennis scene right now."

The British player, ranked No 31, also halted Alcaraz's dominant sequence of nine straight final appearances and 17 consecutive premier event successes, which represented the best series of performances in the Spaniard's early professional path.

The top seed appeared to be advancing smoothly to a win in the beginning as he sailed in the opening set. Yet, the British contender gradually worked himself into the match by serving with sharper placement and dragging the Spanish opponent into prolonged, physical rallies.
