Deadly Typhoon Approaches Vietnam Following Causing at Least 114 Deaths in Philippines

Prior to making landfall in Vietnam, the typhoon left a trail of devastation in the Philippines - and at least 114 people dead.

Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr has declared a state of calamity - which is triggered by mass casualty, extensive property destruction, and disruption to means of livelihoods and daily routines for people in the affected areas.

The weather system, called in the region Tino, devastated the heavily populated island of Cebu, flooding complete communities and washing automobiles along avenues.

Many thousands of people were forced to evacuate, with many taking refuge in emergency shelters.

Emergency Response Efforts Underway

Emergency responders have started operations as affected citizens seek shelter in emergency centers.

The magnitude of this calamity has resulted in large-scale disaster relief in the impacted areas.
