The EU might “act quickly and firmly” against what it calls “unwarranted” travel bans issued by the US against five European individuals working on combating online hate and disinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.

EU Officials Condemn US Move as ‘Coercion’

European leaders such as Emmanuel Macron charged Washington of “bullying and threats”, following the travel bans targeted figures who have been central to campaigns to enact legislation governing US-based technology firms.

“For too long, European activists have led coordinated campaigns to pressure US companies to suppress American viewpoints they disagree with,” stated the US secretary of state in a social media post. “The current administration will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”
