Lindsey Vonn Optimistic of Being 'in prime form' for the upcoming Winter Olympics

Alpine star Lindsey Vonn states she will be "in a good place" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, after claiming a podium spot for the fourth instance in five World Cup competitions.

The veteran athlete, who last week set a record by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, finished third in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This represented her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup top-three result.

Impressive Performance in the French Alps

Racing in the French Alps resort for the first time in eight years, Vonn crossed the line in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was 0.36 seconds behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking second place.

"I was slightly lacking the right line on the first jump," Vonn remarked. "From that point on, I skied well. I'm happy with my skiing today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative."

This performance was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere during the event, having also claimed bronze in the downhill race on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Injury

Vonn stepped away from competition in February 2019 due to persistent injuries. However, she staged a competitive comeback in late 2024 after a partial knee replacement.

With less than two months remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are scheduled for 6-22 February, Vonn's form are highly promising.

She boasts an Olympic gold and two bronze medals in her collection and is firmly on track to compete for the United States at the next Olympics.

"In Cortina, I will be fully ready," the athlete confirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

In addition to her Games aspirations, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four overall crystal globes she has accumulated over a career spanning two decades.

She presently enjoys a substantial lead at the summit of the overall downhill standings and is ranked fifth in the super-G World Cup table.

This season's World Cup circuit includes a total of nine races taking place before the season finals in Kvitfjell, Norway on 21 March 2026.
